BED BUG TREATMENT PREPARATION CHECKLIST

 

Items Needed:

  • Sturdy Garbage Bags or Sealable Containers(Clear bags allow you to see the contents)
  • Encassment Covers For ALL Mattresses & Boxsprings, Futon Mattresses & Aero Beds.
  • 2” Sturdy Duct Tape To Seal Zippers On Bed Covers (Not necessary for covers with Bed Bug Lock Zippers)
  • Powerful Vacuum With Disposable Bag

 

Step One:
Strip ALL Items Off Bed – Including mattress covers, sheets, comforters, dust ruffles, stuffed animals, etc. PLACE ITEMS DIRECTLY INTO GARBAGE BAGS.

 

  1. "EMPTY ALL drawers in bedrooms: dressers, desks, nightstands, armoires, closets, etc.

 

Remove everything from underneath the bed. PLACE ITEMS DIRECTLY IN GARBAGE BAGS.

Wash ALL bedding & clothes in HOT WATER and DRY on HIGH HEAT, or DRY CLEAN. After

 

  1. laundering place items in “NEW” plastic bags.
  2. *CLEAN SHOES INSIDE WITH CLOTH DIPPED IN RUBBING ALCOHOL & PLACE IN PLASTIC BAGS

 

DURING TREATMENT & UNTIL THE INFESTATION HAS BEEN ELIMINATED KEEP CLOTHING IN SEALED PLASTIC BAGS OR CONTAINERS.

 

Step Two:
ENCASE ALL MATTRESSES & BOXSPRINGS IN VINYL COVERS & SEAL ZIPPERS WITH CLEAR TAPE.

 

  1. DISMANTLE ALL BED(S) & BEDFRAME(S) COMPLETELY

 

PREPARE TO POSSIBLY DISCARD COUCHES, RECLINERS & CHAIRS THAT HAVE SMALL TUCKS AND FOLDS “AFTER TREATMENT TO PREVENT SPREADING THE INFESTATION.

 

  1. CLUTTER REMOVED FROM FLOORS
  2. PICTURES REMOVED FROM WALLS & PLACED IN (1) LOCATION FOR TREATMENT
  3. CURTAINS/DRAPERIES REMOVED & LAUNDERED OR DRY CLEANED
  4. VACUUM ALL BASEBOARD CRACKS & CREVICES, BED FRAMES, MATTRESSES & BOX SPRINGS (BOTH SIDES),
  5. CUSHIONS, DRAPERIES, RUGS, TILE LINOLEUM, WOOD FLOORS, WINDOWSILLS, AROUND HEAT RISER PIPES.
    REMOVE ALL OUTLET & LIGHT SWITCH COVERS

 

PLACE VACUUM BAG IN PLASTIC BAG, SEAL THE BAG TIGHTLY & DISCARD IMMEDIATELY

 

  • CHILDRENS TOYS & PET TOYS SEALED IN PLASTIC

 

DO NOT REPLACE THESE ITEMS UNTIL NO BITING OR SIGHTINGS HAVE OCCURRED IN 6 WEEKS

 

  1. ITEMS MADE OF PLASTIC OR PLEXIGLAS SEALED WITH PLASTIC DROP CLOTHS TO AVOID STAINING.
  2. ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT COVERED; I.E. COMPUTERS, PRINTERS, VCR/DVD, STEREO, FAX MACHINES, PHONES, CLOCKS, ETC

 

Step Three - Following Treatment

 

VENTILATE BY OPEN AS MANY WINDOWS AS POSSIBLE

 

IF MATTRESSES & BOXSPRINGS WERE TREATED DO NOT REMAKE THEM OR SLEEP ON THEM UNTIL THEY ARE COMPLETELY DRIED

 

MAY NEED to Discard couches, recliners and chairs that have small tucks and folds.

 

If live bed bugs are found, vacuum the area and place the vacuum bag in plastic bag, seal & discard immediately.

 

Close visible cracks and crevices with caulking material

 

Note! It’s not uncommon to find bed bugs or to be bitten following treatment. You need to give the treatment time to work - at least 10-14 days.

 

THE MORE THROUGH THE PREP - THE MORE SUCCESFUL THE TREATMENT

 

Bed Bug control is performed over 2 service visits. The 2nd follow up visit is performed 14-21 days after the initial, and is designed to kill any bed bugs remaining or eggs that have hatched.

Bedrooms including closets, dressers, end tables, bed frames, headboards, mattress & box spring

Living Room including sofas, chairs, sleeper beds

Cracks & Crevices under baseboard moldings, around pipe chases, crown molding, gaps in floor etc

Hepa Vac all areas to remove adult bed bugs and eggs

Steam used on mattress & box spring, cetain fabrics/items

IGR insect growth regulator designed to prevent nymphs from becoming reproductive adults

Monitoring Devices on sofa & bed frame legs to monitor control success of treatments

Exclusion work availabile seal all openings around pipes, outlets, moldings etc
